Adding Students

This section explains how to add a new student record to TIDE. You can also add the same student to more than one school or district, if required. For more information, Dual-Enrolling Students.

To individually add a student to a district and school, you must be associated with the same district and school as the student. For example, district-level users can add students to any school within their district; school-level users can add students only to their school.

To add a student:

1.From the Students task menu on the dashboard, select Add Students. The Add Students page appears. For more information about using record forms, the section Navigating Record Forms.

2. Fill out the form as required. Use Table 7 as a reference.

3.Click Save.

a.If a student already exists, a confirmation pop-up window appears.

  • To dual-enroll the student in the specified school, click Add. For more information on dual enrollment, Dual-Enrolling Students.
  • To move the student to the specified school, click Move. For more information on moving students, Moving Students Between Schools.
  • To cancel the action, click Cancel. The pop-up window closes and the Add Students page appears.

Zoom | Font Size Sets font size for presentation of test content.
Color Contrast Sets the color of the text and background in the test.
Mouse Pointer Sets the size and color of the mouse cursor.
Streamline Mode Displays test content vertically for enhanced accessibility.
Permissive Mode Allows certified accessibility software to be used with the Secure Browser.

Indicates student takes online or paper-based tests.

Student Demographics

District IDa

District responsible for specific educational services and/or instruction of the student. This is the numeric ID associated with the BIA Regional Office associated with a given school. ID of the district in which the student will test.

School IDa

School responsible for specific educational services and/or instruction of the student. School ID that exists in TIDE, and must be associated with the user uploading the file. ID of the school in which the student will test.

EDUIDa

Student's Education Unique Identification. Student’s unique Native American Student Information System ID. Student’s Registration Number. State-assigned student identifier, which is unique within the district associated with the student.

Student's Last Namea Student's last name.
Student's First Namea Student's first name.
Middle Name Student's middle name.
Gendera Student's gender.
Birth Date (MMDDYYYY)a Student's date of birth.
Gradea

Grade in which student is enrolled during the test administration.

Special Education Statusa

Note: This field was previously titled “IDEA Indicator.”

Flag to indicate of a student has intellectual disability; hearing impairment, including deafness; speech or language impairment; visual impairment, including blindness; serious emotional disturbance (hereafter referred to as emotional disturbance); orthopedic impairment; autism; traumatic brain injury; developmental delay; other health impairment; specific learning disability; deaf-blindness; or multiple disabilities and who, by reason thereof, receive special education and related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) according to an Individualized Education Program (IEP), Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP), or service plan. Student's Special Education program status. The student’s IEP includes an indicator found in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA).

Alt Assessment

Flag to indicate whether a student is eligible for an alternate assessment.

Note: “Special Education Status” must be set to Yes in order to set this field to Yes.

Primary Disability Typea The primary or overriding disability condition that best describes student's impairment. Three alpha characters only.
EL Statusa

Indication of Student’s Limited English Proficiency status. Indicates whether a student is an English Language Learner.

EL Category Codes that indicate a Student’s Limited English Proficiency status. Indicates student's English Language Proficiency status.

Note: “EL Status” must be set to Yes in order to set any value for this field.

Migrant Statusa

Student's migrant status.

Economic Disadvantage Statusa

Indication that Student meets the State criteria for classification as having an economic disadvantage.

Race and Ethnicity
Hispanic or Latinoa

Student's origin or descent to Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Central and South America, and other Spanish cultures, regardless of race.

American Indian or Alaska Nativea

Student's origin is in any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America), and who maintain cultural identification through tribal affiliations or community attachment.

Asiana

Student’s origin is in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian Subcontinent.

Black or African Americana

Student's origin in any of the black racial groups of Africa.

Whitea

Student's origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, Middle East, or North Africa.

Interim Testing Grade
Interim Testing Grade

Grade at which the student is tested during the upcoming Interim Assessments test administration. For example, marking the Grade 4 checkbox under the Mathematics subject indicates the student receives the fourth-grade mathematics test.

Note: All users are able to multi-select different grade-levels in ELA, Math, and/or Science Interim assessments via the Interim Testing Grade drop-down menu.

Test Eligibility
Paper Tester

Flag to indicate whether a student will test on paper instead of online. If the student will be taking the assessment in a paper/pencil format this field is set to Y.

Parental Consent for Remote A/V Monitoring Determines if a student can participate in remote test sessions.

Color Contrast

List of available color settings for all tests in the indicated subject.

Masking Indicates availability of the Masking tool, allowing student to cover distracting regions of the test page. Provides an overlay for students to cover a distracting area of the page.
Mouse Pointer

Turns additional sizes and colors of the mouse pointer on and off for all tests in the indicated subject. Sets the size and color of the mouse pointer.

Print On Demand (N/A for Braille tests)

Indicates print settings for all tests in the indicated subject. This accommodation allows a student to request printing of test items or stimuli (passages) or both, depending on what option is selected. Turns on/off the ability of the student to send test item and/or passages print requests to the TA. Allows a student to print a test's content.

Print Size/Zoom

Indicates enlarged font size in which the test appear in the indicated subject. Displays tests in the selected magnification.

Supporting Students with Literacy Challenges
Language/Presentation (Designated Supports and Accommodations)

Indicates language in which the tests appear in the indicated subject. This tool changes the presentation of the test between Braille, stacked Spanish/English, and English.

Note: Spanish tests appear as stacked Spanish over English text.

Text-To-Speech

Indicates availability of Text-to-Speech (TTS) for all tests in the indicated subject. Reads test questions, answer sets, and stimuli.

Translation (Glossary)

Indicates which glossary, if any, is available for all tests in the indicated subject. Turns on embedded English and/or foreign language glossaries within tests. Only English glossaries are available in ELA tests. Allows students to display a glossary containing translations of construct irrelevant words into the selected language.

American Sign Language Indicates if the American Sign Language videos accommodation is available for all tests in the indicated subject.
Closed Captioning

Indicates if closed captioning is available for ELA tests. Availability of closed captioning for audio stimuli. Automatically displays closed captions for test items with audio elements.

Supporting Students with Visual Impairments
Audio Transcriptions

Indicates availability of Audio Transcriptions in the indicated subject.

Braille Type

Type of Braille in which test items are printed for online Braille tests. Sets the type of Braille used for test content.

Supporting Students Using Assistive Technology
Permissive Mode Toggles Permissive Mode setting on or off, allowing student to use pre-approved hardware or software with Secure Browser.
Streamlined Interface Mode

Turns streamlined interface settings on or off for tests in the indicated subject. The streamlined mode presents the test in an alternate, simplified format in which the items are displayed below the stimuli. Presents passages in items in a top to bottom format (removes split screen).

Migrant Status

Student's migrant status.

First Entry Date into a US School (MMDDYYYY)

The year, month and day of student’s initial enrollment into a United States school.

Limited English Proficiency Entry Date (MMDDYYYY)

The year, month and day of Student classified as LEP entered the LEP program.

Limited English Proficiency Exit Date (MMDDYYYY)

The year, month and day of Student classified as LEP exited the LEP program.

Title III Language Instruction Program Type Type of Student’s Title III language instructional program.

STAAR 3-8 Above Grade Enter a grade for above-grade testing for this subject. For reading and mathematics, one of 5 grades (4, 5, 6, 7, 8) should be selected. For science, one of 2 grades (5, 8) should be selected. For social studies, enter grade 8 if the student is below grade 8. Only grades above the student's current enrolled grade are valid.
Test Language

Indicates language in which the tests appear in the indicated subject. This tool changes the presentation of the test between Braille, stacked Spanish/English, and English.
